Kennedy, Joseph

Kennedy, Joseph
1888–1969
Kennedy was US Ambassador to Great Britain from 1937–41 and he was a firm believer in US isolationism. He did not understand CHAMBERLAIN’s policy of appeasement and felt that Britain could not possibly fight a war against Germany. He told ROOSEVELT that he expected Germany to win the war. In November 1940 he resigned and returned to the USA where he became a supporter of the Lend- Lease program.
